Maps

This library houses all of the maps that you have created or imported into your game. The maps are shown in a table which can be searched by keyword or sorted by map or module name. The buttons at the bottom allow you to manage or add to your map library.

You do not have to create your maps in d20pro. In fact, most of the time you might find that it's necessary to use pre-made maps from modules or create them yourself using various software titles. Once you find them, importing them into d20pro is a fairly basic process.  For help in finding maps, consult our Acquiring Map Images tutorial.

Managing Maps

You can use the search box at the top to quickly find maps in your library.  The box acts as a live filter, so it works as you type.  Alternatively, you can use the pull-down arrow to filter by module.

You can sort by map or module name by clicking on the headers on top, and you can rename maps by double-clicking their names in the table.  The red arrows open the maps into your workspace.

If you open multiple maps, they most recent will be displayed, while others are located in your d20pro Start Menu.

Creating Maps

This is a brief overview.  For more information, see our Creating a Map tutorial.

To When you click on Create, you will be given an option to create a map in 3 ways:
  1. From File:  browse for the file you want to import and double-click
  2. From Clipboard: imports directly from your memory - you must have copied an image file already from the web
  3. Raw Map: creates a blank map of dimensions you specify

From File or Clipboard

Choosing either of these gives you a new window with your map graphic and a grid.  You must give your map a name and specify a module.  The module name determines what folder your graphic is stored in your d20pro\judge\campaign\____\res\FLR folder.

Resize the grid to suit your map scale by using the slider at the bottom and move them map by clicking and dragging it.  Once you are satisfied, click the green checkmark and you are done.

Creating a Raw Map

When you click on this option, you get a window that allows you to specify the map name, module, and dimensions (in squares).  Then you have a blank map that you can work on.  See the Map Tools page for more information.

Import/Export

You can import maps that are already in d20pro format (.d20) or export maps you have created to d20pro map files.

Please note that this is NOT the same as importing graphic files into your d20pro map, or creating a d20pro map from a graphic file. Please see Creating Maps Tutorial for that information.

Importing d20pro Maps

To import a .d20 map, simply click the Import button and browse for the map.  Then double-click it and your map will be opened and saved to the library.  All creatures & graphics will be brought in and their images stored in your libraries for later use.

Exporting d20pro Maps

Exporting is very easy.  Simply select the map you wish to export in your map library, then click on the Export button.  Choose a file location and name it (d20pro automatically adds the .d20 extension for you).   Exported maps can include creatures and items, as well as multiple textures, tiles, or images.  All of a map's contents, including creatures and art, are packaged with the map, so an entire adventure can be saved for instant play just by exporting the d20pro maps!
